Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for
a lifetime.
My aim in tutoring is to impart a set of skills and guiding questions to aspiring
writers, so they can become confident and skilled writers in their own right.
Rather than just proof reading, I lead aspiring writers through the process of
brainstorming, structuring ideas into logical arguments and fine-tuning their
own voice, all while considering their audience.
I have a BA in English from Occidental College and an MSc in Communications
from the London School of Economics. In both settings, I worked as a peer-
writing advisor and conducted one-on-one counseling sessions with
undergraduate and masters students on their academic papers and
I am patient, can work with all ages, ask targeted questions and enjoy watching
writers gain the sense of accomplishment that comes with each completed

Currently, I'm accepting new students who are in need of a tutor or academic

Cornell University: BA Summa Cum Laude in English
UC Berkeley: MA in English, MEd in Education (Reading)
As an English professor, I taught many students to write expository essays,
research papers, and essays about literature. At Ohlone College (and UC
Berkeley) my students learned to craft a powerful thesis and to structure an
essay that flows from this thesis. So, I bring a lot of experience and
sensitivity to my tutoring. Whether I'm tutoring an 8th grade student or an
employee on the job, I tailor my tutoring to the personality and distinct needs
of each student.
For every tutoring hour, I spend at least an hour preparing. I aim to engage
the student and to elicit deeper thinking about literature and writing. I teach
students to discover and express their ideas in language that is effective and
powerful, but all their own
I have successfully tutored students at Piedmont Middle School, Head Royce,

Hello Parents,

I am offering my services as a tutor. A recent transplant to
the Bay Area, I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree
in Art and minors in Physics and Astrophysics with academic
honors. I have been teaching in the classroom and as a
tutor for the past 10 years, both in the US and abroad. I
have a comprehensive understanding of learning theory, and
know how to teach to an individual's particular learning

My aim in tutoring is to give an individual the tools to
complete assignments while also imparting an understanding
of the underlying principals the assignment relies upon. In
this way the student is able to both conceptualize the
theories behind an idea and concretely demonstrate his or
her understanding.

I am happy to help students in any of the disciplines of
mathematics, physics, astrophysics, writing, etc.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Reading Fluency and Comprehension Tutoring

I use highly effective methods that produce dramatic
improvements. You will notice it after only a few sessions.

Before starting, I conduct an assessment. I assess fluency
and comprehension as well as strengths and weaknesses and
any possible learning issues. I put the findings in a 2-3
page report that serves me as a guide in creating a
tutoring plan conducive to student?s specific needs.

The tutoring sessions are composed of several sections with
more focus on those areas that are lacking the most. For
example, if the student reads with low fluency more
emphasis is placed on bringing the fluency up, and as the
fluency improves, more emphasis is given to comprehension.

During each session, I find ways of boosting their self-
confidence which helps them become confident readers.

I also do six week reading intervention for first and
second graders. My tutoring rate is $50 per session.

I am a poet and teacher looking to support my writing habit. I received my BA

I'm a recent graduate of UC Berkeley, where I just received
my Ph.D. in Russian Literature. While at Berkeley, I taught
five semesters of Reading and Composition, so I am familiar
with most writing issues. I have also worked with ESL
students on how to improve their writing, both in the US and
Japan. I would be happy to work with your children on
writing assignments for school, college application essays
and general issues with grammar, argumentation, etc. My

Dear Parents: I can offer your child the highest quality

professional tutoring, to develop critical reading

and writing skills, prep for the SAT test, or revise

college essays. I have tutored E.Bay high school students

for 10 yrs, after a career as a college English professor

and h.s English teacher. I have my PhD in English, my

M.A.T. in English Education (Cal certified), and have

published extensively on both literature and teaching.

My students consistently raise their English grades and

SAT scores (sometimes as high as 250-300 points). I work on

all English skills--critical reading, essay writing, and

grammar/usage/vocabulary skills. I offer rigorous, kid-

friendly test preparation, with much more individual

attention and greater expertise than others can offer. I
have many references from families I have worked with in

the e.Bay. Reasonable rates.

I am an avid writing tutor and provide assistance in all stages of writing, with

through understanding assignments, determining important content, organizing
argument and essay construction, and editing to a finely tuned paper.

Majoring in English, I graduated with a 3.8 GPA, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta
Kappa from a liberal arts school on the east coast. As a one-on-one tutor for 2

Hello! I am a tutor to k-12 students in the East Bay area. I graduated in 2011
with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and have been
working as a Reading/Writing/English and Fine Arts teacher for the past
couple years.

I adapt my lessons to each student's learning style, and make sure to
integrate their individual interests. I help students to improve their writing by
teaching how to effectively organize ideas, improve their grammar, and write
with detail and accuracy. In terms of reading, I teach phonics and have
students become familiar with word families and site words. I have worked
with ages K-12, and have a lot of experience helping Spanish and Arabic
English language learners in particular.

I integrate arts and crafts in my academic lessons with younger learners and
make my own teaching materials that cater to each student's needs. I love
coming up with creative ideas to make the process of learning fun and easy!
