I am former kindergarten (5 yrs.), first grade teacher (2
yrs.), and literacy coach (4 yrs.) I am a trained Reading
Recovery Teacher and I have a Masters in Reading/Reading
Specialist Credential. I moved to the Bay Area 2 years ago
in order to pursue my Ph.D. At that time, I began work as a
Mentor for the New Teacher Center at UC Santa Cruz. I am
currently taking time off from my graduate work in
anticipation of heading back into the classroom (4th grade)
this fall. Yeah!
I am extremely patient and I have had amazing results with
even difficult students. My expertise is in early reading
and writing, but my classroom experience allows me to work
with students from kindergarten through 5th grade in every
content area.
I have tons of classroom resources and supplies (including
leveled texts) at my fingertips.
I live in the Lake Merritt neighborhood of Oakland and I am
available most afternoons.
Resume and references are available upon request.

As a PhD. candidate at UC BERKELEY's Graduate School of
Education and as a graduate of HARVARD's Graduate School
of Education, I have extensive background with tutoring,
child development, and teaching practices. I have 6 years
of one-on-one tutoring experience with students ages 3 to
22, working on subjects ranging from basic reading,
writing, and math to test preparation and college
admissions consulting. My unique approach to tutoring
follows the model of an expert consultant. I don't only
tutor the subject, I tutor the person, with great
results. I begin with a thorough assessment of the
student's learning style, motivation, life context, and
personality, and then craft a student-specific and
behavioral-specific curriculum and pedagogy that includes
content mastery, study skills, and motivation. Parents
and students find my services invaluable. References are
available upon request. Please contact me for further
information.

I'm a 29-year-old writing teacher and journalist living in
Berkeley. I taught high school journalism in Oakland for 3
years. Since then, I've tutored extensively in a variety
of subjects, including SAT prep. As I am a professional
writer, helping students through the often frustrating
challenges of writing is my specialty. I have expertise in
helping students of all ages and abilities through the
various steps of composition, including the brainstorming,
creating an outline, mechanics, and editing. Most of my
students need assistance focussing their ideas by talking
them out and strategizing how best to present them on the
page.

I also have experience teaching more creative writing
forms. Whenever possible, I encourage students to
experience the immense satisfaction that can come from
writing something well. If requested, I would be happy to
provide references.

English Tutor for Middle School Students

I help students with homework and support them by reviewing
and expanding basic reading comprehension and writing
skills: grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary,
creative thinking and the principles of composition. I
foster organizational and critical thinking strategies for
high school writing and the SAT.

I have tutored in the schools and privately for three
years and have ten years experience teaching history and
anthropology in a museum setting

I believe in the power and pleasure of self expression
through a well-crafted essay, story, or poem. Its very
satisfying to support that process with kids.

The first hour of tutoring is complimentary; my tutoring fee
is $25 per hour. I live in Berkeley, two blocks from King
Middle School. I tutor students in my home or drive to
yours in Berkeley, Albany, and El Cerrito.

My goal is to help each child experience success and joy in
reading in a safe and nurturing environment. I am a
credentialed teacher and have been trained in the Reading
Revolution method, which uses a multi-sensory approach,
addressing phonemic awareness, spelling, fluency, and
comprehension. Props and hand movements help students
internalize a strategy for sounding out words. Games and
controlled texts reinforce reading skills and fluency.
Comprehension and a desire to read are developed through
careful selection of books with input from the student.

A satisfied parent reports, Nancy uses her expertise,
creativity, patience, compassion, and fun kinesthetic
activities to help my son experience success in reading.
Hes gone from a non-reader to reading by flashlight under

Reading Teacher available for summer tutorial

I am an experienced elementary school teacher (10+ years)
available for summer tutoring in reading, writing, and/or
math. I specialize in teaching both second and third
grade, but would consider working with other aged children
this summer.

I have excellent references and I offer a sliding scale. I
am also willing to consider a services ''trade,'' if
finances are an issue.

Remember, the summer can be a great opportunity to either
catch-up (if your child is falling behind, academically)
or to maintain the growth they've already worked so hard
to achieve. One or two sessions per week with a tutor can
work wonders to improve skills, knowledge, and (most
importantly) self-confidence.

LEARNING SPECIALIST/TUTOR: Learning outside of the box. If

qualities. Subject areas include reading, writing/English,
study skills, and math (elementary math, up to pre-algebra).
I work with individuals and small groups in my home office

If your child is in need of extra support in elementary school reading and
writing I am ready to help him or her reach her academic goals and have fun
in the process! I currently work full time as a first grade teacher at Redwood
Day School in Oakland. I am available after school, weekends, and during the
summer to help prepare your child for next year.

I have a K-8 credential and a master's degree in education from Mills College.
My fee is $50 per hour.
If you are interested I can be contacted via email at sarita1976@hotmail.com.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
