Hello!

My name is Avery and I would love to be in touch with
you. I gradated from
UC Berkeley with honors this spring and from the
Institute
for Civic Leadership at Mills College in 2011. During the
spring semester, I loved tutoring students in college
writing at the UC Berkeley Student Learning Center. I met
with five students on a weekly basis and worked
occasionally
at the drop in writing center. I received wonderful
weekly
training and excellent feedback from my students and from
my
supervisor on my attentive, stimulating and challenging
tutoring practices. I am also a trained peer tutor
through
the Mills College Center for Academic Excellence. I am
now doing private tutoring with two 6th grade students, a
high school student and giving feedback on essays for a
college student remotely.
I have also done participatory journalism. Now I am
reading, volunteering for the Anti Eviction Mapping
Project and applying for English MFA. Speak soon!

I have worked as an educator for six years, with experience
in inquiry-based design-thinking curriculum and alternative
teaching models. I combine a background in environmental
education with rigorous academic experience in a range of
subjects and age groups. I have studied and taught
everything from poetry, to forest ecology, to nonviolent
communication. I love to work with students across a wide
range of learning styles, as we collaborate to create
practices that are most engaging for the individual student.
I focus on taking time to develop a robust and enjoyable
learning relationship. I support students as they build a
strong relationship with self-directed study and with their
own curiosities and capacities. We create passion for
learning and content that improves performance. I work
across a range of subjects and projects, adding in support
for study skills.

I am new to Berkeley. Please feel free to contact me with
questions and opportunities.

Hey there! My name is Nick and I'm a double major in English Literature and
Economics at Cal. I graduated high school in 2011 with a weighted GPA of
4.51 and an unweighted GPA of 3.91. I excel in all sorts of subjects, especially
mathematics, English, and American history. I'm also a highly qualified SAT
tutor. I'm very up-to-date with the test, as I only took it two years ago. My
score breakdown is as follows: 790 in Critical Reading, 780 in Math, 710 in
Writing, 2280 Composite. I've been tutoring elementary, junior high, and high
school kids for five years now, and even after all that time, I?m hard-pressed
to call it a ?job.? Being a student myself, I know what makes kids tick. Whether
it's through humor, sports, or what have you, I can find ways to connect to
kids. And once I earn their trust, getting them interested in learning is
nothing more than a cakewalk. If you're interested, I am too. Contact me!

I recently graduated from a Berkeley M.A. program where I received a full-funded
fellowship. Before attending Berkeley, I triple majored in Sociology, Spanish &
Portuguese, and Latin American Studies, graduating summa cum laude. Over the
course of these last six years, I have had the honor to work with students
individually through one-on-one tutoring at the university tutoring center and as
a graduate student instructor. I also have successfully helped friends and clients
complete graduate, undergraduate, and professional school applications, getting
into Harvard, UC Berkeley, UNC, and several others. Beyond these qualifications, I
have learned five languages (going on my sixth), which has given me a keen
understanding of syntax, grammar, and organization. Depending on the
material, my rates are negotiable from thirty to fifty dollars. I look forward to
speaking with you.

Greetings,
My name is Kevin Arnold. I've been working as a teacher, academic
tutor, and homework coach throughout the thriving Berkeley
community for over 14 years.

Currently, I'm accepting new students who are seeking to improve their
writing and close reading skills, and learn how to manage their own
educations. Also, I help students with their college application essays,
and improve their SAT/ACT scores.

Over time, I've learned that effective tutoring is more than knowing a
subject - it's knowing how to connect with students and teach in a
relaxed and engaging way. I approach my students in a good-humored,
confident and knowledgeable manner. This approach allows them to
feel relaxed and focused, which truly allows them to learn a subject or
new skill. Please feel free to give me a call for a consultation, and to
explore my website for more information.

Best,

Hi.

I have a PhD in Drama from Stanford, where I have subsequently worked as a
teaching fellow in the humanities, helping freshmen to develop their reading and
writing skills in many areas across the humanities. I currently work with a small
number of private clients in the Bay Area, from junior high through high school
seniors, to closely develop their reading and writing skills.

I can help your child develop expository, persuasive, and narrative writing,

on your needs, I can work primarily through guided writing exercises, or
discussion, or both.

I am also available to help guide your child through the college application
process, particularly focusing on crafting strong application essays.

Please contact me for rates and availability. I am available to work during the
summer and the school year.

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and feed him for
a lifetime.
My aim in tutoring is to impart a set of skills and guiding questions to aspiring
writers, so they can become confident and skilled writers in their own right.
Rather than just proof reading, I lead aspiring writers through the process of
brainstorming, structuring ideas into logical arguments and fine-tuning their
own voice, all while considering their audience.
I have a BA in English from Occidental College and an MSc in Communications
from the London School of Economics. In both settings, I worked as a peer-
writing advisor and conducted one-on-one counseling sessions with
undergraduate and masters students on their academic papers and
dissertations.
I am patient, can work with all ages, ask targeted questions and enjoy watching
writers gain the sense of accomplishment that comes with each completed
essay.

I teach children to read. I rely primarily on the Reading
Revolution method, a multi-sensory approach that includes
both phonics and comprehension components. The students
learn through games and reading controlled text and good
books in a warm, supportive environment. My goal is to
help each student achieve success as a reader and enoy
reading.

I have a teaching credential and over 9 years of
experience teaching reading as a private tutor.

My tutoring space is in Berkeley, near Ashby and Telegraph
Avenues.

A satisfied parent had this to say: ''Nancy uses her
expertise, creativity, patience, compassion, and fun
kinesthetic activities to help my son experience success
in reading. He's gone from a non-reader to reading by
flashlight under the covers.''

Cornell University: BA Summa Cum Laude in English
UC Berkeley: MA in English, MEd in Education (Reading)
As an English professor, I taught many students to write expository essays,
research papers, and essays about literature. At Ohlone College (and UC
Berkeley) my students learned to craft a powerful thesis and to structure an
essay that flows from this thesis. So, I bring a lot of experience and
sensitivity to my tutoring. Whether I'm tutoring an 8th grade student or an
employee on the job, I tailor my tutoring to the personality and distinct needs
of each student.
For every tutoring hour, I spend at least an hour preparing. I aim to engage
the student and to elicit deeper thinking about literature and writing. I teach
students to discover and express their ideas in language that is effective and
powerful, but all their own
I have successfully tutored students at Piedmont Middle School, Head Royce,
Bentley and Berkeley High.

Hello Parents,

I am offering my services as a tutor. A recent transplant to
the Bay Area, I graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a degree
in Art and minors in Physics and Astrophysics with academic
honors. I have been teaching in the classroom and as a
tutor for the past 10 years, both in the US and abroad. I
have a comprehensive understanding of learning theory, and
know how to teach to an individual's particular learning
style.

My aim in tutoring is to give an individual the tools to
complete assignments while also imparting an understanding
of the underlying principals the assignment relies upon. In
this way the student is able to both conceptualize the
theories behind an idea and concretely demonstrate his or
her understanding.

I am happy to help students in any of the disciplines of
mathematics, physics, astrophysics, writing, etc.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.
