I am a Ph.D. candidate in History at UC Berkeley. I have taught many courses,
graded hundreds of student essays, served as a graduate mentor to senior
honors students, and taught freshman reading and composition. As a private
tutor I have helped dozens of high school and college students develop clear
and compelling writing with good structure, logic, and organization. I also
have extensive experience working with students for whom English is a
second language.

Good writing is as much about developing confidence as it is about learning
proper vocabulary and rules of grammar. I specialize in helping budding
writers identify the demands of a given task--argumentative essay, research
project, personal narrative--and then develop a strategy for completing the
task quickly and effectively.

Rates: Sliding scale based on hours per week/month. Please inquire.
Locations: Depending on the project, we can meet in home and/or
electronically.

Hello Parents and Students:

My name is Morgan. I just graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. in history. I
have worked as a tutor for three years and plan to teach middle/high school
history. I take a metacognitive approach to learning that helps students
realize their own needs and strengths so that they can become more
confident and independent learners. I have worked as a freelance tutor as well
as in an intensive tutor and mentor training programs at UC Berkeley. I have
tutored students of all ages.

I am trained and experienced in tutoring the following subjects from
elementary-college:

History (my specialty is US history)
Writing
Study Strategies
Strategizing with learning disabilities
English

I live near the UC Berkeley campus, and have a reliable form of transportation.
My rates are negotiable. If you are interested, please contact me for my
resume and references.

I am offering to tutor high-school or college students in
the above subjects in and around Alameda. I have two
Master's degrees, one in European history and one in World
History. I also have a PhD in history. I currently teach
World History at Stanford to first year students. I have
also taught at six Bay Area institutions, including Berkeley
and Mills. Student evaluations are invariably high. Samples
can be shared along with a C.V.

I live in Alameda and I'm willing to tutor in-home. I am
married and a parent of two young children. More information
is of course available upon request.

Kind regards,

John Corbally, Ph.D

My name is Shawn. I'm a junior in high school (Bentley
Class of 2012) with one year's experience in peer
tutoring. I provide a welcoming and respectful atmosphere
and because I am still a high school student I am skilled
at engaging my pupils if they've shown previous
disinterest. My previous students (three high school
students and one UC Berkeley undergrad) have gone from
failing grades to A's and B's. I am willing to go to your
house if it's within ten minute's bicycle ride of a BART
station, my home in Montclair, or a coffee shop. I am
available to help struggling students or students who wish
to get ahead over the summer of 2011 in regular, honors,
or AP World or United States History course prep. I charge
twenty dollars an hour unless your child qualifies for the
Collage Board Fee Waiver Program or a free or discounted
school lunch.

Resume, references, and high school transcript available
upon request.

I'm available to tutor students K-12 in English, history
(US, European, Asian, world), math (through geometry),
Biblical Hebrew, Mandarin Chinese, and Japanese. I've got
a BA with honors in Near Eastern Languages and
Civilizations from the University of Chicago and have
lived in both China and Japan. I've taught at a Japanese
immersion summer camp and tutored in the Chicago Public
Schools. I love teaching and helping students reach their
full potential. I can tutor students in Berkeley public
libraries or in private homes. Please contact me for my
resume and to talk about rates.

Cheers,

Isaac
