English Tutor for Middle School, High School, College, ESL
Students

I help students with homework and support them by reviewing
and expanding basic reading comprehension and writing
skills: grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary,
creative thinking, research strategies, and principles of
composition. I foster organizational and critical thinking
skills for
high school writing and the SAT.

I have tutored and privately for three
years and have ten years experience teaching history and
anthropology in a museum setting. I have considerable
experience with college level ESL students and am presently
in an ESL certificate program.

The first hour of tutoring is complimentary; my tutoring fee
is $25 per hour. I live in Berkeley, two blocks from King
Middle School. I tutor students in my home or drive to
yours in Berkeley, Albany, and El Cerrito.

ESL: Writing and Pronunciation Tutor for High School Students from Abroad

Emily Wheeler has a master's degree in teaching English as a second
language, and she has eighteen years' ESL teaching experience.

Emily offers your student the opportunity to learn English writing skills in the
shortest possible time. Although developing these skills requires lots of
practice, many high-school English teachers do not assign homework that
requires writing. Using top-quality textbooks as well as her own materials,
Emily teaches students to organize their ideas, to use native-like phrases and
rhythms and--most importantly--to recognize and correct grammar errors.

As an experienced pronunciation coach, Emily can also help your student
speak English more clearly. To excel in an American high school, students
must have the confidence to participate in classroom discussions.

Please see Emily's website at www.emily4english.com. Then call for a free
phone consultation.

My name is Elyse Wesendunk. I have a B.A. from Berkeley in
American Studies. Much of my studies focused on education
of second language learners. I applied what I learned
inside the classroom to individuals with limited English
proficiency. I have a lot of experience working with this
population. I work with both adults and children with
varying levels of English knowledge. I work on a one-to
one-basis with people to develop English skills in many
areas. These areas include but are not limited to
conversation, pronunciation, written grammar, and reading
fluency. In addition, I worked as an assistant at a local
adult school as a small group leader to help prepare people
for their citizenship tests. I am friendly and have a lot
of patience. I am creative with my teaching techniques and
try to make learner engaging and fun. I will soon be
pursing a Masters in Bilingual Education. Rate per hour is
negotiable. If interested please contact me.
