I am a cutting-edge East Bay tutor who helps students improve their written and
spoken English and gain confidence with the language.

I have been tutoring ESL students for five years and I have worked with people
from many countries including Mongolia, Argentina, Germany, Poland, and
Korea. I tutor children as well as adults.

Sessions are one or two hours and typically take place at your home or a local
library. I travel to Oakland, Berkeley, Kensington, Albany, El Cerrito, and
sometimes other locations depending on the time of day.

Contact me at 510-984-1552. Say that you saw my ad here and receive your first

Only one spot left for Jan 2013!

I am an experienced, credentialed teacher who teaches ESL to
adults and children! I have been trained in many different
learning styles and have had success where many other
teachers haven't.

I'm happy to email you my resume and a description of my
services if you'd like. I will say up front that I charge
more than some tutors but I am a trained, credentialed
teacher and can be more helpful in less time than many. The
best compliment I have ever gotten from a parent was that
the change in her son was ''miraculous.'' That's why I do it!

email better than phone to contact me.

Hello there, I'm a woman in her 40's who studied Teaching
English as a Foreign Language in Boston at the Worldwide
Teachers Development Institute in the late 1990's. Since
then, I've taught/tutored one-on-one in a variety of
subjects, including singing, math, reading, writing, music
software, and English as a foreign language. Most recently
I've worked with two Swiss children, aged 7 and 9, on their
English reading and writing skills. I am a nanny as well,
and generally love working with kids! I charge $30-35/hour
depending on your location. I live on the Oakland/Berkeley
border and am willing to travel. Please feel free to
contact me by phone or email.

Tutor seeking to help kids find their highest potential!

Before moving to the Bay Area this August to pursue my graduate studies in
Berkeley, I served as a middle and high school teacher at an independent
college preparatory school. I have experience and training working with ELL
students, especially with issues of difficult subject matter based on the cultural
context of the student in relation to the coursework. If your student is having
trouble understanding what class is actually about, the issue may be only
partially language. Overcoming this takes effort from your student, but also a
teacher who can give your student the background and cultural insight that will
help them. I have a lot of experience with this work, and love to do it!

My rates are flexible (needs-based). I live on the peninsula and commute
regularly to Berkeley.

Warmly,
Carolyn Kerns ckerns[at]mac.com
