Last year my child went to Soccer Basics and Footfire soccer camps. I recommend both camps highly.
soccerbasics.net is at MLK school/Willard Park and has great soccer, has shade and nice bathrooms, and a play structure campers can use at break. All-day campers can swim in the afternoons. A smaller and low-key camp, seems great for advanced players (my child is younger) but also great for younger or more beginning players. Coach Bill O'Donnell is very experienced and knowledgeable, has good skills/fun games set up and likes kids.
Re: Soccer for a 5 year old
soccerbasics.net runs Sat AM clinics, 1 hour, for 4-5 year olds. Also has a great summer camp, 5 years on up. My son first fell in love with soccer working with Coach Bill (and Coach Alex) at Soccer Basics. Another great summer camp is Footfire with Coach Carlos Hill, in Berkeley, but may be a little much for a 5 year old. You may be able to get on a spring soccer team, call the various clubs and ask, but it might be awkward as the regular season is in the fall. anon
Soccer Basics has been offering fun Soccer Camps in Berkeley for 15 years for children of ages 5 thru 13. The camps are held weekly at the soccer field/track on Hopkins. Although spaces are limited, we welcome teenagers with soccer experience to participate in our CIT (coaches in training) program. For information call 232-4625.
