July 2012

My incoming first-grade daughter just completed a week at Camp Kala, at the Kala Art Institute on San Pablo in Berkeley. It was absolutely fantastic. Truly amazing to see the beautiful, creative, thoughtful work that the kids produced through the course of the week. The leaders did a wonderful job guiding and teaching the kids, while providing plenty of space for creativity and individual expression. Kids got to engage all kinds of mediums and learn about artists, styles and materials as the week went by. My daughter LOVED it and looked forward to going each day (and she's kind of a homebody, so that's saying a lot). If your child is interested in art, or just likes to create in any form, I highly recommend this experience! It was terrific. Rena C.

My daughter LOVES Camp Kala. She had her favorite week of the summer there last year and created the most amazing art treasures she's ever made, which are now prominently featured in her room and all over our home. She didn't know anyone when she arrived, and the staff made her feel so at home and at ease that every day was exciting for her. She ran in the studio happily - couldn't wait to get there to start creating and enjoying the varied activities and wonderful staff and other participants. The Art Show on the last day was inspirational, as all the kids were so proud to show off their work and share their positive experiences with their families. I highly recommend this camp - and our daughter can't wait until next time! Beth
