Re: Looking for a child-oriented Jewish congregation
(Feb 1999)
We've mostly been active with the Aquarian Minyan, a Jewish Renewal group.
With the arrival of the new Rabbis and a little initiative from some
parents, there are now a few new programs. For up-to-date info, call the
event hotline at 510-869-3510. The first friday each month is now a
"mishpacha" (family) night. The next one is this fri, march 5. Potluck at
6:30 in someone's home followed by services, stories and singing.
Children's activities are divided into three age groups. From 0-7, there
are two saturday's a month where families meet in someone's home at 4:30 in
the afternoon for songs and activities. This is followed by havdallah and
a potluck dinner (order dependent on what time of year it is :-). Ages
7-12 have a youth group that meets once month for comunity projects and
adventures such as hikes and trips. There's also talk of a pre bar/bat
mitzvah class and possibly some "family camp" weekends.
