Re: Need a Home-based, Loving Preschool
You may want to look into Rainbow Preschool way up Thornhill in Montclair. It has a max of 12 kids. The director, Deborah Yugo, is a retired kindegarden teacher. She creates a play based environment with heavy emphasis on social development. She has high expectations for kids behaving well and acting appropriately. I actually had a problem with her expectations being a bit rigid at first, but the kids thrive in it and adore Deborah. While she is a bit authoritative, she is also very free with hugs, kisses and tells the kids regularly how much she loves them. The kids are kind to one another, learn to handle problems independantly and there is never a sense of things being out of control. The director is there as a teacher 100% of the time and also has another teacher with her. Almost everyday there are extra activities with specialized teachers: Kung fu, Spanish, Movement, Storytelling w/puppets, & Music class. The kids gain enrichment and also learn how to be attentive and participate (or decline to participate without being disrespectful or disruptive). I don't have the number with me and I don't know if space is coming available, but she is on BPN listings. anon
