Glenview / Montclair / Lakeshore area
Preschools near Chabot Elementary
I know of four preschools in that area (all for ages 2-5 I believe; all are
full day, some with half day option, except Roots & Wings has only half
days on Fridays). They all are near the Broadway/Taft/Manila area:
Roots & Wings Family Day Care (hours are 8:30 to 4:30 M-T, 8:30 - 1:30 F;
though I don't think she is taking any new children right now) ,
Rockridge Montessori ,
Rainbow Preschool ,
The Raisin' Center (half day option)

There is an excellent preschool on Taft Avenue (cross street Broadway) called The Rainbow School . [follow link for recommendation]

My wife and I are seeking recommendations for preschools to check out in
our area (Glenview/Montclair).
Our son is now 2 years and 4 months old and we hope to place him in a
preschool in 9/00.
We are particularly interested in preschools which focus on pre-reading and
math.
Exposure to computers is also an important factor.
Any recommendations are appreciated.

There are several preschools right in the Grand Lake/Lakeshore area that
you might want to check out. Our son, 3 years old, just started at
Lakeshore Children's Center.
We were drawn to the place because of rave
reviews on the UCB website (take a look). When we visited, the affectionate
relationships between the staff and the kids were very evident. We also
knew another family there. Aaron seems to be settling in nicely. It is a
play-based center.
If you are looking for something different, you might try
Montessori Casa
dei Bambini. It's gotten AWFUL reviews on the parent's website. People on
this list seem to think it is WAY too rigid. Our little boy was there for
the summer program, and really enjoyed himself. They have really great
materials. No question that the environment is richer than Lakeshore
Children's Center. Money was a major factor in our switch. Montessori Casa
dei Bambini is about $1000 for full-time care, while Lakeshore is less than
$600.
I haven't visited the center, but another one in the neighborhood that a
friend of mine's daughter went to, and just loved, is Lakeview Preschool. I
don't know if it has any reviews on the parent's webpage.... I think in
terms of cost it is somewhere in the middle.
For the following reviews, click on the school's name to see the full review.

Since Elizabeth mentioned Lakeview Preschool, I
should add my two bits of information.

We have sent both our kids to Temple Sinai and love it for a large
variety of reasons....

To the Montclair parent interested in recommendations on Oakland
preschools: We did a fairly exhaustive search for preschools near(ish) our
Oakmore home (just below Montclair, just above Glenview). Our 3 year old
is now at the Duck Pond on Park Boulevard ....

I do not know about the pre-schools in Montclair itself, but I have two
wonderful
pre-schools to recommend. The Mills College Children's School,
located in the
Mills College Campus (a short drive from Montclair) is fabulous. ...
The other pre-school that I was impressed by is a co-operative in Berkeley
called
Dandelion (I realize that this is quite a commute for a Montclair parent,
but...).

My daughter attends Skyline Preschool located at 12540 Skyline Blvd in
Oakland....

I enthusiastically recommend Lakeshore Children's Center
(510-893-4048) on
Lakeshore Avenue, near Mandana....

I would like to recommend Montclair Community Play Center, located on
Thornhill Drive in Oakland....
