I'd like to recommend Thania Marin's wonderful family daycare, "Mommy and Me." Thania has a full time space available for an infant, and/or a toddler. I trust Thania with my kids more than anyone. Thania is loving, patient, careful, very experienced, and has a magical intuition about babies and children. She has more than 18 years experience-first as a nanny and then in a preschool-and excellent references. She is licensed and certified in first aide and CPR. Her English is perfect; her family mostly speaks Spanish at home so the kids end up learning a lot of Spanish. Thania's program is small; there are up to 9 kids from babies to age 5. Her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law help her, so the kids get lots of attention. We have been so happy with Mommy & Me. Our son William started there when he was a few months old. William is one of the family. He is bi-lingual (Thania and Mama Tere speak Spanish with the children) and ready for kindergarten. Thania has worked in pre-schools before and the kids are well prepared to enter either pre-school or like William enter kindergarten straight from Thania's care. The infant care is amazing! Babies are adored and held. William (at 5 now) is so tender and gentle with babies because of all the positive modeling. Thania has room for under 2 and over 2 right now. If you live in South Berkeley you should be OK with the neighborhood. If you live in North Berkeley but drive through South Berkeley on MLK or Sacramento you should check it out. While South Berkeley gets some gruff for good reason, it is block by block here and there are amazing people like those at Mommy & Me hidden here. Call Thania at 841-1043. I am writing to recommend a wonderful daycare. Both my children have attended Thania's daycare and are so well loved and cared for. I have 1.5 and 3.5 year old daughters and they have both been at Thania's. Four of the older children are going off to preschool which leaves openings. I believe there is a 3 day a week opening for a child under 2 (mon, Wed, Fri) and that there are 4 full time openings for children over 2. Thania's is run by her family. The children receive so much love and the atmosphere is relaxed and homey. Somehow, Thania creates an atmosphere where the children do not fight, they get along great and are always happy, not to mention that you become part of the family and receive their support in emergencies. My dad recently died in another country and Thania took up the slack caring and loving my older daughter while I had to leave the country for a week. We couldn't have done it without her. Very loving family environment, kids get lots of attention. My daughter thrived there for 3 years and just left for pre-school. Exposure to Spanish was an added bonus for us. My daughter has been going to Thania's since she was 5 months old (she's now almost 3!). She adores Thania and obviously loves being there. Thania has more than a decade of experience working with children -- first as a nanny, and then in a pre-school. She has all the proper certification (CPR, etc.), but more than that, she just has a wonderful way with the children. She's set up her home to be very safe and provide lots of stimulation and fun activities for the children. Her sister-in-law and mother-in-law assist her.
