Re: San Leandro Schools
I'm writing to tell you of a great preschool
very near Roosevelt. Beth Sholom on Dolores Ave. Our son went there
from age 2.75 to 5. It's affiliated with the temple, but accepts lots
of non-Jewish kids (we are not Jewish). The director Edna is great and
truly likes kids. It's mostly play based; they do a little stuff with
numbers and alphabet, they learn about Jewish traditions and
participate in Jewish holidays. It's quite inexpensive compared to most
other preschools around. Not a lot of bells and whistles, field trips,
new toys or anything, but safe and caring. They take kids still in
diapers. They have a lot of different options for days/week and
hours/day. We had a great experience and felt very confident having our
son there.

Re: Structured preschool in Oakland or San Leandro
Temple Beth Sholom is a great preschool in San Leandro which I
highly recommend. My daughter just spent 3 years there and I
am waiting for my son to turn 2 so that I can start him there
as well (the children don't have to be potty trained). It's
located in north San Leandro! right off of 580 at Grand Ave. The
hours are from 7:30am-6pm. The director is a lovely, warm
person and cares about all of the kids. There are planned
activities but also a lot of time to play outside in a large
outdoor space. They also have children of all religions and
races. Plus, the cost is low compared to other preschools. If
you would like more info, you are welcome to email me.

Re: Preschools that give scholarships
Temple Beth Sholom PreSchool in San Leandro is great preschool that
my son has been going to for a year. While they are open to all children, they have a scholarship program for Jewish kids that was endowed by a donor. Call Edna at 510/357-7920.

Re: San Leandro preschool with flexible hours
My son is 2.5 and has been at Temple Beth Sholom Preschool since the
day he turned two. I highly recommend the school. My son loved it from
day one and he runs into the classroom when we drop him off. They are
VERY flexible with hours and even let me bring him in a extra day here
and there if I need to for $5 an hour. Their staff turn over is very low and
the teachers are really sweet. Kids don't have to be potty trained and
they will help with the training when the time is right. They offer many
parent events like Science Night, Children's Literacy workshop,
Discipline Skills workshop, etc. Helena
