Indoor Volleyball at The Beach
October 2001
I'm planning to have a birthday party for my 7 year old son at The Beach
(indoor beach volleyball) at the Oakland Army Base. It sounds like it will
be a lot of fun, but I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has
held a birthday party there recently. Yvette
My daughter's 10th birthday was at the Beach, and the girls had a great
time. Energetic counselors keep them in action, from volleyball to a
water-balloon fight. Then we had ice cream and cake (bring your own) or you
can order a pizza from a nearby pizzeria. Merry
My daughter had a very successful 12th birthday party at The Beach, an
indoor sand volleyball court, this past summer. The party was not cheap.
You are paying for two college-age assistants who plan games, supervise,
and generally take care of all the kids for about an hour and a half. You
have to do nothing other than take care of refreshments and tableware. You
use their picnic area for cake, ice cream, and present opening. The girls
then played pool and basketball until the parents arrived to pick them up.
The only downside to the whole event was that the kids were mostly coming
from the El Cerrito area and traffic on the freeway heading toward the bay
bridge was so backed up that many of the guests missed at least half the
party. I would recommend that if you are coming from that direction you
give guests alternate directions, heading off the freeway before the bridge
turnoff.
