Re: A getaway for only one night
A long time ago, my husband and I stayed at the Pelican Inn for only one
night. Not sure what their policy is now, but you should check it out. It is
an old fashioned, English-style inn right at Muir Beach. The restaurant/pub
is good too, so you can just hang out at the beach and the inn and not spend
your time driving around.
Pelican Inn, Muir Beach. Private, romantic, and a short drive north of the
GGBridge.

Re: Romantic Getaway for Couples
I highly recommend Pelican Inn in Sausalito (on the way to Muir
Beach). It is very charming and cozy with a neat little
reading/relaxing room that is open to all guests. Another
advantage is that it is really close by, but you feel like you
have really stepped away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Have fun!

One of my absolute favorites in the Pelican Inn in Muir Beach. This is a
replica of a 16th century English country inn, with irregular doors,
plaster walls, exposed beams, tiny-paned windows, a cosy little pub
downstairs, an even cosier guest's sitting room, and a dining hall with a
huge stone fireplace. Lots of character, especially if you get one of the
rooms with a canopy bed set high into the wall, reached by climbing worn
wooden steps. 10 minutes' walk down a quiet road is Muir Beach, a small
cove. This is about 15 minutes' drive north of the Golden Gate Bridge, so
it is very handy, but it feels great. We used to come all the way up from
L.A. to stay there. Interesting parts of Marin like Inverness are within
1/2 hour drive from there -- you could go for a kayak paddle, window-shop
Sausalito, explore Pt. Reyes, etc.
