The Parents Net's Top Ten for Bay Area Parents

    1. Berkeley Parents Network
"I have gotten wonderful ideas from others, bought a few things, and like having a 'virtual' group of moms out there with so many opinions. "

    2. Bananas
"in addition to being THE resource for Bay Area child care information, gives parenting workshops on topics such as "Living with Ones and Twos," CPR/Emergency training, etc. For working and/or busy people, their one-session workshops may be more do-able than the more time-consuming weekly classes offered elsewhere."

    3. Parents Press
"Parents' Press, which I just picked up at the supermarket (free), is a treasure trove of information. The September edition has an advertisement for the October 9 K-8 admissions fair for private schools in the east bay (7-9 pm at the Veteran's Memorial in Berkeley, 1931 Center St.), a wonderful article on things to do with kids while waiting in line, and all sorts of other happenings and advice. There are display and classifed ads for preschools, schools, child care, entertainment for kids' parties, etc. etc. PP is also available at the Berkeley Main Public Library, I've noticed, along with their new "sister" publication, Parent.Teen."

    4. Neighborhood Parents (formerly Neighborhood Moms)
"for parents of young children especially stay-at-home with under-3's: monthly newsletter, playgroups, social activities, School directory, and more."

    5. The Oakland Zoo
"family membership: $45 for an annual pass that pays for itself in 2 visits. Great exhibits, renovated amusement park and a great place to go and hang out. The membership pass is also good for admission to the SF Zoo."

    6. Tilden Park:
"The Little Farm, Merry-Go-Round, pony rides and the steam trains.....also the walk around Jewel Lake is a must for toddlers who need to be worn down in order to take a nap!"

    7. Habitot downtown Berkeley
"A great place to pass the time with a toddler, especially on a rainy day."

    8. Cotton & Co on College.
"Great place to buy nursing bras; excellent staff to assist you for a good fit. Also, breast pumps to rent, maternity and nursing clothes. Periodic sales and a 75%-off bin."

    9. Lauren's Closet on College Ave. (also located in Lafayette and Alameda): gently used and new children's clothes, furniture and maternity clothes. "the employees are very friendly and their collection of clothing is very well organized. "

    10. Rockridge Kids on College Ave.
"My favorite toy store. They have a large selection and the staff are especially knowledgeable AND very nice!"
