Vaginal Odor
Sept 2006
I've noticed that I smell different than I did before the birth
of our 8 month old daughter. Have you noticed a change in your
vaginal flora or odor since childbirth?

Are you breastfeeding? If so, the hormones associated with
lactation cause the vaginal secretions to change to those often
associated with menopause (because estrogen production by the
ovaries is suppressed) and this can not only cause a change in
the normal scent of vaginal secretions, but renders the vagina
more vulnerable to actual infections. I would recommend having
your gynecologist check things out.

Yes, this happens. I actually even found that my body/skin odor was a bit different.
This at least lasted as long as I was breastfeeding. Once I stopped breastfeeding,
after a few months, it seemed to go back to where I was pre-pregnancy. It's crazy
all the things that happen to your body that no one ever seems to talk about, isn't
it?

I have also noticed a change since the birth of my son.
Sometimes, I can't believe it is me that the new ''scent'' is
coming from! I am guessing it is a hormonal thing. I am going to
ask my OB/GYN and am interested in the repsones you receive.
